Hey folks!
I’m nose-to-the-grindstone as I try to take down a few deadlines. So, no real preamble from me today, just going to jump right into it.

What’s Out This Week
Theta is ambushed by a Predator! But is this the Predator that she’s been tracking all these years? And without her weaponry, is she prepared to take it on one-on-one?
Written by me, illustrated by Kev Walker, coloured by Frank D’Armata, lettered by Clayton Cowles.
What Else Looks Good
There are a couple of Kickstarters that I think are well worth your time.
Good friend and mad genius Simon Roy has a campaign running for Griz Grobus — “a fantasy epic about a war-god, trapped in the body of a goose, nested within sci-fi comedy adventure, about a long-forgotten priest bot, reawoken in the town he once founded, and the lowly mortals forced to babysit both of them!”
Give a click and watch the video. The book looks like a shit-ton of fun.
Simon and I had previously worked together on The Field — a four-issue, time-travel mindscrew story meant to feel like an obscure film you might stumble across in a drunken haze at 2 am on a Saturday night.
Speaking of films…James Tynion IV, Elsa Charretier, and PK Colinet are making one!
From James’s latest newsletter:
“Elsa Charretier, PK Colinet and myself are making a short horror film called ROOM SERVICE, and we’re funding it on Kickstarter!
This Kickstarter not only funds the creation of the short film, but also funds the creation of an incredible Art Book that will include my script, Elsa’s storyboards, a short horror story by me illustrated by Elsa, and all sorts of behind the scenes making-of material from the three of us making the dang thing. We recruited Tiny Onion stalwart, Department of Truth co-creator Martin Simmonds, to design the Movie Poster that will also serve as the cover of the Art Book. Take a look at this beauty right here!
…
ROOM SERVICE opens the door into a hidden world that caters exclusively to the ultra-rich, and provides them experiences that only their money can buy. It is the story of a man, down on his luck, who agrees to participate in a grisly transaction in that world, and what happens to him when he decides he wants to back out.”
I’m a big fan of all involved and can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Where To Buy My Books
Just a reminder that I have an online shop, where you can pick up most of my work. As always, I’ll happily sign anything you purchase at no additional cost. If you’re looking to get things for Xmas, it’s never too early to start shopping!
I may be shutting the shop down for a while in the new year, as deadlines and an increasingly busy schedule demand that I keep my focus on work. So, get it it while you can!
What I’m Obsessed With This Week
If you’re only here for comic news, you may want to skip this part.
This past week, I bought an old cast iron pan that was manufactured sometime between 1922 and 1959. I do a lot of cooking with cast iron and had heard that the older, vintage cast iron was lighter, smoother, and provided a better overall cooking experience. Plus, there’s something exciting about the idea of cooking in a pan that could be 100 years old.
After coming across this pan for $25 in a local listing, I thought I’d give it a shot.
The pan had some rust and was caked with old seasoning, so I ended up having to restore it completely — which is something I’ve been reading up on a lot lately and was very excited to try out.
After two rounds of hitting it with oven-cleaner and leaving it to sit in a bag, I rinsed and washed it off. I was surprised and thrilled to see that everything came off. There was a little residual rust on the handle, but that came off with baking soda, water, a steel scouring pad, and a little elbow grease.
After scrubbing and about 4 rounds of seasoning, it came out looking brand spanking new. This pan is so light and the cooking surface is glass-smooth. Cooked up some eggs in this baby earlier today and the surface was completely non-stick.
This pan was a bit of a trial run for me. I’m now on the hunt for larger cast iron to restore.
What’s Coming Up
Here’s what I’ve got coming out in the next couple of months:
Predator #3 (October 19)
There’s Something Wrong With Patrick Todd #4 (October 19)
Deathstroke Inc. #14 (October 25)
Predator #4 (November 2)
Batman Incorporated #2 (November 8)
Deathstroke Inc. #15 (November 22)
WildStorm 30th Anniversary Special (November 29)
There’s Something Wrong With Patrick Todd #5 (November 30)
Nice pan handling.
I've found myself mesmerized by this youtube channel that's some faceless set of hands restoring old tools/knives. I don't watch anything else on youtube but for some reason watching someone take a butcher knife that looks like they found it in the bottom of a river and grind, sand, buff, chemical soak it back to beauty is enchanting
Predator is amazing! Loving every issue!
