Hey folks,
Going to keep this one pretty quick. Or quickish anyway.
Where I’ll Be
In 24 hours, I’m hopping on a flight to NYC to attend NYCC (Oct 6-9). For the first time in roughly a decade, I won’t be tabling. I’ll be floating around the show, visiting with friends I haven’t seen in a while, and taking the opportunity to explore the city some. Though, if you want me to sign some books, or would like to hear my blather on a panel, then you can find me at the following times in the following places:
SIGNING:
Friday, October 7 - 2pm-3pm
Saturday, October 8 - 2pm-3pm
Booth E31 (Artist Alley)
Gavin Guidry has been kind enough to let me sit in with him at his table to sign copies of our book THERE’S SOMETHING WRONG WITH PATRICK TODD.
PANEL:
Sunday, October 9 - 10:45am-11:45am
Room 406.1
DC’s Gotham City Panel
Find out what’s next for the famous — and infamous — Gotham City and its denizens of Super-Villains and Super Heroes.
Hope to see some of you folks there. Not all of you though.
What I’m Watching
It’s October, so we’re fully in horror movie mode. We’re only a few days in but managed to kick the month off right with The Black Phone. Ethan Hawke and director Scott Derrickson, who previously did Sinister together (also great) reteam for probably the best horror film I’ve seen this year. The film has a great sense of place — it legitimately feels like a 70s film and not a modern film playing dress-up — and an incredible feeling of dread throughout. The way this film uses the threat of horror instead of just dousing us with killings and jumpscares is a revelation. More horror directors should take note.
I can’t recommend it enough.
What I’m Obsessed With
Fire-King Anchor Hocking Kimberly mugs. I’ve been buying them whenever I come across them in the wild. Love the design — they don’t make mugs like these anymore.
Fuck you. They bring me joy.
And I’m Out
That’s all from me this week. See, I kept it short. I’ll be back next week to talk at length about Batman Incorporated #1, which drops on October 11. Very proud of this book. John Timms is a dream collaborator and I think the book is going to be something very special. You can scan the QR code on the image below (or just click here) for a preview of #1. I think you’ll like what you see.
Until next week!
