Living a Secret Life
Still trying to figure out some sort of rhythm as to how often to send these things out. For now, it’s whenever-I-have-something-new-dropping. The frequency of that is going to change as I navigate my way through a bunch of secret conversations that will hopefully be revealed soon.

Ride For Cancer
Every year since moving to Halfax, I’ve participated in the Ride For Cancer, a great charity event that raises money to purchase life saving equipment for local hospitals. This year’s they’re raising money to purchase a new “state-of-the-art genetic sequencing technology at the QEII, to analyze the genes of thousands of tumour samples each year. Better outcomes, fewer side effects, access to a new therapy or clinical trial are all benefits this technology brings to cancer patients, here at home. It can even spare patients from unnecessary treatments. This is a game-changer for those patients facing late-stage cancers.”
I’ve lost three family members to cancer in the last 15 years and just in this last year lost a friend and former co-worker who had been fighting the disease for several years.
I’ll be riding 100km on October 2, 2021 as part of the event. If you’re able to donate to the ride, you can do so here. As I’ve done in past years, I’ll be sending signed comics to any who donate more than $50.
Beyond the Breach #3 - Out Today!
OFFICIAL SOLICITATION: It's a showdown in Garberville! Vanessa's new friend might just be an ultra-dimensional outlaw on the run, and now she's caught between him and those sent to hunt him down. If she hands him over, she'll never find out the secret of The Breach, but can she help someone who's responsible for the deaths of thousands?
This issue, we continue to explore the world as it is now. We get hints at what might’ve happened and who might be responsible. And of course, we meet plenty of friends along the way!
As always, Damian is absolutely smashing it on art. Patricio’s colours lend a beautiful creepy vibe to this new world and Hass continues to be one of the best letterers out there.
Oh, you want a preview?!? Okay, fine! Here you go:
Murder Book: Catch & Release Update
Just a quick update to let folks know that the book is printed and on a boat, making its way across the Pacific Ocean. This process takes approximately six weeks and then there’s an additional one week after they land to get all the books to the shipping points. At which point, they’ll be shipping out to folks.
That update came a week ago, so hopefully we’re only six weeks from them landing now. Looking like it’s Late October/Early November when they’ll start landing in people’s mailboxes.
REMINDER: If you did back the Catch & Release Kickstarter, but haven’t yet filled out the Backerkit survey, please do so now. Most folks have alread, but there are still abotu 10% of surveys that have yet to be completed.
BATMAN SECRET FILES: PEACEKEEPER-01 #1
OFFICIAL SOLICITATION: Picking up after the events of Fear State: Alpha, follow Sean Mahoney, a.k.a. Peacekeeper-01, in the wake of his exposure to highly potent Fear Toxin at the hands of the Scarecrow! Now, dosed with terror and facing a lifetime of fear and insecurity, Mahoney has found himself frantically reflecting on his past as a GCPD officer, and then as a prison guard at Arkham Asylum—all while desperately attempting to keep his mind from fracturing. Will Peacekeeper-01 give into fear…or become terror incarnate?
Got a chance to co-write this book with James Tynion who’s been out there killing it with Something’s Killing The Children and The Nice House By The Lake. We dive a bit into Sean Mahoney/Peacekeeper-01’s family history and how they’ve been a mainstay within the corrupt GCPD ever since there’s been a GCPD. Small nods to past works like Batman: Year One throughout, which made this one an absolute joy to work on.
A huge highlight of this issue was getting to work with Josh Hixson who I’ve been a fan of for a while now. His dark shadow work in the story really makes this a menacing read.
Out on October 19, 2021.
ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARKSEID? #1
OFFICIAL SOLICITATION: Gather ’round the fire, fellow campers, because it’s time for that most terrifying of traditions—campfire stories so scary you’ll never sleep without a night-light again! The Teen Titans guide those brave enough through tales of Batman and the hidden killer, Superman and Lois Lane and the killer in their back seat, Harley Quinn and Darkseid versus a furious Bloody Mary, and four more stories so hair-raising you’ll call your momma to come pick you up. So toast your marshmallows, pull up a s’more, and answer the only question that matters this Halloween: Are you afraid of Darkseid?
This was a fun assignment. Got to write an Aqualad and Aquaman horror story set in Kelowna, BC — where I spent my teen years. Christopher Mitten is on art and really elevated this little story into something special.
This one is out on October 5, 2021.
Another question that I’m paraphrasing from about a dozen emails:
Q: I thought Predator was supposed to be coming out in November, but don’t see it in solicitations. Did it get delayed again? If so, when can we expect it.
A: I only found out fairly recently that the book was being delayed (again). I’m now being told early next year, but that’s about as specific as anyone has been.
Though, for those worried, we are still working on the book — though progress has slowed down somewhat.
New that the new Predator movie has wrapped filming is now out and my assumption is that they’re trying to time the comic with the movie release, but I don’t know that for sure.
More news as I have it.
If you have a question, send it to me by either responding to this email or by clicking on the word balloon icon at the bottom of this newsletter.
This may be one of the very first pictures we ever took of Lasagna just after I got back from my 10 hour round trip to pick him up back in 2013. He doesn’t look real here, he’s almost like some sort of Jim Henson creation.
