Hey folks!

I’ve got roughly three billion things to get done before leaving on this trip next week, so I’m going to keep this short!

I’ve been cutting down on coffee over the last month, down to half a tea cup a day. I don’t know if this was a good idea to do before a trip.

There’s Something Wrong With Patrick Todd #1 Out Tomorrow!

Finally, we’re about to release Patrick Todd upon the world.

Fifteen-year-old Patrick Todd lives on the run, hiding out in seedy motels, living out of his backpack and making sure that his mom - recently struck down by a mysterious illness of the mind - is well cared for. But doctors cost money. A lot of money.  And, so, Patrick turns to a life of crime. Using the telepathic abilities he's been hiding all his life, he forces the worst of the worst to rob banks, taking the money before making them turn themselves in to the police.
But someone has taken notice of Patrick's schemes. A reckoning is coming. Will the police find Patrick in time to save him, or will he become yet another victim of the killer called Zeus?

Written by Ed Brisson (BEYOND THE BREACH, Uncanny X-Men, Old Man Logan) and illustrated by Gavin Guidry (Captain America: The Ghost Army, Going to The Chapel), THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH PATRICK TODD weaves a web of intrigue, deceit and hot pursuit as danger closes in from all directions.

I know I say this a lot, but I’m very excited about this book. Gavin has been an absolute delight to work with and I’m hoping that this series isn’t the last you see of us working together. Chris O’Halloran has been murdering it on colours, as usual, and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou continues to show why he’s one of the top letterers in the business. The crew at Aftershock have been great at helping us mold this book into something quite special.

Signing Tour Info

Okay, so it’s just over a week before I hop in the Subie and hit the road for 33 days. 23 states, 7 provinces, 9 stores, and 2 conventions. This is the longest trip I’ve ever taken in my life, so I am equal parts nervous and excited. About half of the states we’ll be driving through, I’ve never been to before and I’m looking forward to what each has to offer.

I mentioned this last newsletter, but I will be masking up for all signings and would encourage others to do the same. Hope to see as many of you as possible on this trip!

Note: Since this is the first day we’ll be on the road, this is not an official signing because I don’t know what time we’ll be in the area. We’re pretty sure that we’ll be there an hour or so before close but can’t guarantee. If not, then early the next day. I will be popping in to sign stock and any books customers have asked to be set aside to be signed.

Project Updates

I have three creator-owned comic projects in various states of development - Project: Hollywood, Project: Oshawa, and Project: Kelowna (yes, all three are named after cities). I’m also working on another non-comics-related project, which I’ll dub Project: Brunswick County.

Project: Hollywood: Currently being coloured and will hopefully be off on the pitch parade pretty soon.

Project: Oshawa: The artist for this pitch/project is available and I’m doing a final pass on the script to send off to them later today. With any luck, we’ll be pitching this sometime when I’m on the road. I’ve gone through 18 thousand title options for this, but feel like I may have nailed it down finally.

Project: Kelowna: Still early days on this one and I need to spend a little time digging into it and really figuring out all the pieces. Have been talking to an artist about it and we’ll probably put together a pitch later on this year (provided I can get the story down in time).

Project: Brunswick County: This is the TV project I mentioned last newsletter. The co-writer and I will be hopping into the pilot script when I’m back from the signing tour.

A couple of other projects that I had put in the vaults, but have been thinking about of late are:

Project: Ashcroft: This is a small-town horror book that’s been bouncing around in the back of my mind for about 3 years now. It’s missing an important piece and I’ve brought the documents back out to see if I can figure out WHAT that piece is.

Project: Road Trip: This is a horror film idea that I’ve been batting around for the better part of the last decade. I’ve worked on it in fits and starts, but have never really made any concrete progress. Because the concept ties closely into the trip I’m about to take, I’ve decided to bring a notebook along on the trip with the aim of figuring out the little details that will really make this sucker sing.
