Hey folks,
I’m a few days away from hitting the road for my twelve-day, nine-city tour to promote the release of The Displaced #1. I’m very excited to get on the road again and see folks in person. Almost as excited as I am for The Displaced to finally be out there and in people’s hands. For those who don’t already know, The Displaced is about Oshawa, the city I grew up in. It’s a very personal project that I’ve been chipping away at for more than fifteen years.
As for what it’s about, here’s the solicitation from BOOM:
The city of Oshawa, Ontario has vanished without a trace.
Even worse, nobody remembers it or the 170,000 missing residents that disappeared along with it.
As the survivors also fall into the forgotten, they must seek each other out, if they hope to have any chance of surviving in a world where no one believes they exist...
Highly acclaimed writer Ed Brisson (Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Predator), rising star artist Luca Casalanguida (Regarding the Matter of Oswald's Body, James Bond), and red hot colorist Dee Cunniffe (Barnstormers, Crossover) pose the question... how can you feel connected to reality or each other if by all veritable means, you don't exist?
I’ve been incredibly lucky to work with Luca Casalanguida, who’s brought a grounded realism needed to truly exploit the horrors of the fantastical situation Emmett, Gabby, Paige, Tavis, and Harold find themselves in. Dee Cunniffe’s colours are a perfect compliment to Luca’s art and Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou’s letters are full of character, as always.
The book hits stands this Wednesday and I hope that all of you reading this will give it a shot. It’s only five issues for now, but this is a world I want to continue to tell stories in. Hopefully, if folks show up, enjoy the series, and support it, we’ll be able to continue.
What About That Tour Exclusive Variant Cover?
As promised last newsletter, I’m giving all of you lovely readers an early peek at the Tour Exclusive Cover before it’s released on social media.
I love it so much. I hope you do too.
Illustrated by your friend and mine, Chip Zdarsky, this cover is limited to only 500 copies and will be selling for $20. The only way to get copies, for now, is at each signing. If there are copies left after the tour, I’ll be placing them for sale through my online shop. By purchasing the Tour Variant, not only are you getting a cool-as-hell cover, but you’ll also be supporting the tour.
Where am I signing, you ask? Well, check it out:
As always, I do not charge for signatures.
A bunch of the shops have set up event pages, which you can find below:
Worlds Collide Comics (Oshawa, Ontario), Heroes Your Mom Threw Out (Elmira, NY), East Side Mags (Montclair, NJ), Third Eye Comics (Annapolis, MD), Pittsburgh Comics (McMurray, PA), Most Excellent Comics & Gaming (Enfield, CT), Jetpack Comics (Rochester, NH), Heroes’ Beacon Comics (Saint John, NB), Strange Adventures (Halifax, NS).
Also!
If you’re coming out to the Worlds Collide signing in Oshawa on Saturday, February 17th, in addition to the Exclusive Tour Variant Cover, you’ll also be able to pick up the Worlds Collide Store Exclusive Variant Cover by artist Richard Pace (Richard will be at the signing as well!).
It’s a beaut of a cover as well:
One Last Peek!
For those not fully convinced, or who have somehow missed my previous posts of The Displaced, below is a preview — a DIFFERENT preview from the last one I shared — to whet your appetite:
If You’re Interested…
I’m going to do my best to upload videos and photos from the tour over on my Twitter and Instagram pages, please do follow along!
Okay, That’s All From Me
Hope to see you folks at one of my stops on the tour.
Here’s a Lasagna to tide you over until next time. I was bagging and boarding the variant and created the perfect sleeping spot for him in the process.
See ya!
